Welcome to Central Lobby - the Parliamentary bulletin of Unlock Democracy

This is where you will find the details of anything going on in Parliament  to do with democratic renewal.

The articles on Central Lobby are organised around the issues that we campaign for.  If you click on the links below you will see a brief overview on why Unlock Democracy is interested in this policy area and links to more detailed explanations of the issues, as well as details of any relevant  legislation and policy developments.

We hope that you find Central Lobby useful.  If you would like to help write articles for Central Lobby please contact Alexandra Runswick on alex.runswick*at*unlockdemocracy*dot*org*dot*uk

Select Committees

A select committee is a committee made up of a small number of parliamentary members follow the work of a particular government department, eg the Justice Committee looks at the work of the Ministry of Justice, while other committees just look at specific policy areas such as the Public Administration Select Committee. Both Houses of Parliament (the House of Commons and the House of Lords) have select committees.  While select ommittees are usually made up of members of one house, some committees include members of both houses such as the Joint Committee on Human Rights. Unlock Democracy follows the work of a number of select committees and you can find articles on the reports that are relevant to our work on the select committees page.
